Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The Flambeaux 2022 Sonoma County Rosé sings in the glass with bright rose petal, Citrus blossom, and hints of kiwi and melon aromas. Mouthwatering acidity and notes of wild strawberry, pink apple, watermelon, and lemongrass combine with hints of fresh herbal nuances for a refreshing yet serious Rosé.
Vineyard Profile
The 2022 growing season started off a bit cold but soon warmed up to normal temperatures. Sonoma County was truly blessed to miss the serious heat waves that affected other parts of California and the Northwest. Instead, we experienced a perfectly “normal” summer with moderate temperatures and foggy mornings. Harvest was a bit earlier than normal, and the ongoing dry conditions lowered yields but the flavor concentration in the grapes was outstanding.
Production Notes
Made from a blend of our estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel via the saignée method of bleeding off juice right at crush, our Rosé is fermented in stainless steel tanks and matured briefly in neutral French oak barrels to add roundness to the texture of the wine. The 2022 vintage is a blend of 60% Zinfandel and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Winemaker Notes
In the past, the Estate Zin provided a really fruity component while the Alexander Valley Cab provided structure. But this year, the Cabernet Sauvignon component took the more fruit-forward and juicy role with the Zin remained structured and firm in its presence. The resulting wine fits nicely with the style of Rosé that we have made in the past and look to continue to make—one with bright acidity, some juicy palate weight, and plenty of structure to pair with everything from classic New Orleans fare to fresh California cuisine.—Ryan Prichard, Flambeaux Winemaker
Food Pairing
This Rosé is lovely with light summer dishes, seafood, and as an aperitif with a good chill. We love it with ceviche!
